Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and her husband, Durek Verrett, have filed a defamation lawsuit in Los Angeles against several former members of their inner circle, seeking more than $80 million in compensation. Court documents filed September 14 in Los Angeles County Superior Court allege a “calculated betrayal of trust” by people who had once been welcomed into the couple’s private lives and business operations.

According to the filings, the defendants include a former intimate partner of Verrett’s, his half-sister Demetria de La Nuit, a former manager and collaborator, and a former friend and collaborator, along with ten currently unidentified individuals. The lawsuit, which also names Verrett’s American company Ohana Productions as a plaintiff, accuses the defendants of spreading false and harmful allegations and, in two cases, violating confidentiality agreements. The documents also state that Verrett has suffered severe financial losses as a result of the allegations against him, including a reported 96% drop in revenue from parts of his business. Two hearings are currently scheduled in Los Angeles for December.

The couple’s American attorney, Richard Roth, who is working with Jamie Campbell, said in a statement to Norwegian outlet VG: “Our clients’ reputations have been judged by the public for years. Now the facts will be tested in a court of law.”
