What the country has to understand is that this is not a battle between Robert Mueller and Donald Trump. This is an investigation by the Department of Justice of Donald Trump. By that I mean that it’s not only the Mueller team that is performing the investigation. It is the United States United Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the federal marshal’s office, investigators, the FBI and others who are poring through documents and interviewing witnesses to get to the truth. And what they have found is not so startling; they have found that President Trump may very well have committed federal crimes. Again, it is not a witch hunt. A jury of peers convicted Trump’s campaign manager and Trump’s personal attorney and national security advisor pled guilty and are cooperating with the authorities. Simply, notwithstanding his grandstanding, Trump must realize that no one is above the law. And if he did commit crimes, then he may even be prosecuted.
Cohen pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws when he made hush payments before the 2016 election to two women alleging past sexual encounters with Trump. According to prosecutors, Cohen carried out the payments “in coordination with and at the direction” of Trump. Thus, the prosecutors in New York are making a powerful case against Trump. And Flynn has been speaking to the authorities about his knowledge of Trump’s involvement in Russian meddling – facts that he has pled guilty to for lying to the authorities about … While we do not yet have the entire story, if the President of the United States directed and coordinated a crime, then that cannot be swept under the rug, no matter how partisan this country has become.
